 At MHC Traffic Ltd we currently undertake the majority of traffic surveys using our sophisticated, in-house developed CCTV Video-surveillance equipment. There are numerous advantages to using this method:
- A camera positioned at the roadside has very low impact on the general pattern of traffic or pedestrian activity compared with numerous enumerators clad in luminous clothing; therefore the survey provides a far more realistic overview of a typical day at the junction in question.
- One camera unit can survey whole junctions or intersections on its own where previously many enumerators would have been required on site. This allows large, inter-related, multi-junction surveys to be coordinated and undertaken at short notice. Cameras can be used for long continuous surveys through day or night without any loss of concentration that may be encountered by an enumerator, thus improving accuracy - Example of stills from CCTV.
- Adverse weather conditions have no effect on our sturdy camera units thus allowing all surveys to be undertaken by our highly trained staff in comfort; an increase in accuracy is obtained as enumerators can concentrate without battling against the elements.
- As the camera units can be raised to 30 feet, this can provide both the enumerator and the client with an exceptional view of a junction that previously could not have been obtained, resulting in accurate survey results.
- Any unforeseen or unexpected observations that may arise during the course of the survey will be permanently recorded and can be reviewed by our clients after the survey has finished. This can obviate the need for a potential site re-visit.
